It’s A Trap (Activity For Kids)

Proverb for Life - Proverbs 6:1-2 My son, if you have put up security for your neighbor, if you have shaken hands in pledge for a stranger, you have been trapped by what you said, ensnared by the words of your mouth. It's been a while since we did an activity with the small fries.  With the holidays and the cold weather and sickness in the house, we've just been hanging around doing all we can to stay caught up.  This weekend it was beautiful here in Oklahoma so we finally got out. While we were at the park we took a minute to do this activity that has been on my to do list since after Thanksgiving!! You can do this activity indoors too, but we needed some sticks and the park provided plenty of those. To do this activity you'll need: a mouse trap a long stick a mouse or other … [Read more...]

Building an Imaginary Fortress (Activity for Kids)

Picture 209

Proverb for Life - Proverbs 18:11 The wealth of the rich is their fortified city; they imagine it an unscalable wall.  (NIV) When I was pregnant with Precious A, I prayed she would have blue eyes and a great imagination.  She got a double dose of both!!  All of the small fries possess a great imagination.  So when I read this verse I thought it would be perfect for an activity to have them put those great imaginations to work. To do this activity you'll need: An ability to imagine things other than the way they actually are Some soft balls of any kind Begin by reading Proverbs 18:11. Explain that your kids are going to be attacked by someone throwing super-soft-balls, but not to worry.  They are going to use their imaginations to build a huge fortress to protect … [Read more...]

The Joy of Giving: Activity for Kids

Picture 157

Proverb For Life - Proverbs 11:25  Whoever brings blessing will be enriched,     and one who waters will himself be watered. (ESV) One of the best ways I have found to demonstrate to the small fries why God wants us to be good stewards is to let them see and be a part of us being generous. Not in a bragging, "look what we just did" sort of way, but rather explaining that the reason we say "no" to something is so we can say "yes" to someone. Over Christmas a good friend of mine shared how she and her family made an extra Christmas breakfast, and before opening their stockings and presents, they drove around to gas stations and stores that were open and took people breakfast.  I loved the idea and thought it was a great way to actively demonstrate thinking of … [Read more...]

Making A Money Jar: Activity

Picture 203

Proverb For Life - Proverbs 21:20  "Precious treasure and oil are in a wise man's dwelling, but a foolish man devours it." (ESV) Yesterday I wrote about how different Daniel and I are in our approach to money in the article, Do You Have Enough Money (he's the nerd; I'm the free spirit!).  Even though we may be different, our goal (to teach our children to be good stewards of their money and possessions) is the same. To help them get excited about working hard and saving up what they earn, I helped them make personal money jars.  (Princess L saw a similar idea in a Strawberry Shortcake craft book and wanted to try it) Before we began, we read the Proverb of the Week, Proverbs 21:20, and talked about why a wise person would save some of what he or she earned. To do this … [Read more...]
