Muddied Water (Activity on Friendship)

Picture 403

Proverb for Life - Proverbs 25:26 Like a muddied spring or a polluted fountain is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked.  Water. Delicious water. I love drinking a cold glass of water on a hot day. Without water nothing would survive long. When I read this verse I thought it would be a great way to illustrate to the small fries how vital it is to take stand for what is right.  This was especially important to me considering the incident we had last week (which you can read about in the article An Honest Answer (Proverb of the Week).  Precious A knew that her little sister was doing wrong, but she didn't take a stand, and because she didn't stand up for what was right she became guilty too. To do this activity you'll need the following: 2 bottles of clean … [Read more...]

Singing to the Sorrowful (Activity on Friendship)

Proverb for Life - Proverbs 25:20  Like one who takes away a garment on a cold day, or like vinegar on soda, is one who sings songs to a heavy heart.  (NIV) I think every parent wants their kids to be smart, and not just ordinary smart, genius smart. We start singing the ABC song while they are still in utero.  We read books that teach colors before they can talk.  We glow with pride when our kid gets a concept before someone other, not-so-smart kid does.  We feel a little ashamed if our child is "slow" in one subject or another.  We hire tutors, spend hours doing homework.  All so our kids will know what they need to know to be successful in the world. For all of the time we spend nurturing their IQs, cognitive intelligence, we spend hardly any time nurturing their EQ, their … [Read more...]

Picture 645

Proverb for Life - Proverbs 25:19 Like a bad tooth or a lame foot is reliance on the unfaithful in times of trouble. (NIV) Being an intentional teacher of your children doesn't have to take a lot of time. Trust me, with four small fries, time is not something I have a lot of!! This weekend I was reminded how important it is to have trustworthy friends. So yesterday we did this very simple activity to demonstrate how important it is to have faithful friends, friends you can count on in times of trouble. It only took a few minutes, and it was a fun way to act out Proverbs 25:19. To do this activity you'll need: A bungee cord or something to tie a foot back A stool or chair to lean on for beginning balance Begin by reading Proverbs 25:19 and explaining how trusting a person who … [Read more...]

Why Do I Like You? An Activity on Friendship

Picture 064

Proverb For Life - Proverbs 17:17   "A friend loves at all times, a brother is born for a time of adversity." (ESV) I am so thankful for my friends.  My friends who walk beside me through life, encouraging me on the hard days, laughing with me on the silly days, and dreaming with me about the future.  Friends who listen.  Friends who care.  Friends who take time out of their day to invest in my life.  Friends who go to God on my behalf.  Friends who trust me with their heartaches and their happiest moments.  Friends who challenge me to be the mom and wife God has called me to be.  I could not say thank you enough to them for the gift of their friendship! One of my deepest desires is to be this kind of friend to them as well.  It is so easy to get wrapped up in my day and my … [Read more...]
